                      Winter Programme                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

A MountainZone adventure enables you to share in a real base camp experience using expedition quality equipment in a remote setting.

 

This Autumn/Winter programme is subject to favourable weather conditions. Cold is cool. Wet and windy, no

 

Day 1

 

  • 10am: Meet for coffee and introductions in Waterford.
  • Set out for the mountains.
  • Trek from trail head to base camp
  • Pitch the group tent and our individual tents
  • Enjoy a well earned lunch. Nothing like the outdoors to give you an appetite!
  • Get going on a range of activities including short hikes, introduction to high tech and traditional navigation.
  • 6pm: Fire up the stoves and muck in to prepare supper
  • Chill out over supper and plan the following day’s route to the summit
  • Spend the rest of the evening in typical base camp mode telling tall tales of past adventures (feel free to use your imagination) before hitting the sack!

 

Day 2

  • After a hearty breakfast, set out for the summit taking in some spectacular views along the way including a 432m sheer cliff face dropping down to Coumshingaun Lake (that’s twice as high as the Cliffs of Moher!)
  • At the summit grab a photo opportunity, you are 792m above sea level!
  • Return to base, break camp and hike out to the trail head

Suggested gear list for Winter tour .

  • Base layer (longjohns & long sleeve vest
  • Long sleeve T-shirts x 2
  • Jog pants or tracksuit ends (not jeans)
  • Woolly hat, to cover your ears
  • Fleece jacket (or similar)
  • Rain / windproof over trousers & jacket with hood
  • Spare socks
  • Gloves
  • Boots with ankle support (not runners)
  • A down puffer jacket or similar (depending on predicted temperatures)

MountainZone will supply all tents, sleeping bags, ground thermal mats,

All cooking gear, evening meal, breakfast, we also supply led head torches, trekking poles. rucksacks and Gore-tex jackets.( If required)

Mongolian Drinking Tent     (MountainZone Dining Tent)

This latest addition to the MountainZone kit is a traditional hand built Mongolian drinking tent.  Brought to Ireland by Raymondo Whelan R.I.P,  the design has been used for centuries.

These tents are used at local horse fares, markets and other outdoor events. Mongolia's version of the Corporate Box!

It is spacious; measuring 7meters x 4 meters and is 2.4 meters high. It comes complete with bench and fold up chairs and can easily accommodate 12 people.

If you would like to experience the unique atmosphere, MountainZone is offering its use as an add on to its weekend tours

Cost

The group costs for this add on for the weekend, which covers logistics and hire, is €150.    

For example a group of 10 will pay €15 each, and a group of 12 will pay €12.50 each
